Latest challenge for South Sudan: Armed internal rebellion

After weeks of scattered clashes that left hundreds dead, rebel militias in Southern Sudan have united in a new armed movement against the young southern government, raising the prospect of civil war even before South Sudan declares independence in July.

"We have formed a new group. It is called the Southern Sudan Democratic Movement. We are calling the army the Southern Sudan Army," said renegade general George Athor, who is heading the rebel command, speaking earlier this week by satellite phone from an undisclosed location.

Man, I sure that the news is inflating this story. My biggest fear for South Sudan was and is that they won't be able to govern themselves after voting to separate. With so little infrastructure, how do you enforce laws? With next to nothing for a police force, how do you keep peace?

The Dinka are a hard people. Anyone who has been to South Sudan has seen that. What is needed above all is a softening by the Holy Spirit. No amount of political resolution or education will bring them to peace. I believe they need to submit to God. Please pray for this country.
