Idolatry

Idolatry may not come in an obvious form. Sometimes it just finds you, or you find it, in a simple and innocent place. That place of innocence turns into interest after some time and you begin to seek out this seemingly normal thing. I mean, we seek after many different things that enter our lives, activities, adventures, objects, people; but this thing is different. It starts to grip you and you want it more. It becomes a common thought on your mind and a place you ponder in the day. Then it becomes obsessive. You may not even notice it, but it is there and it is mean. Your infatuation with something new has turned into a hoarder of time an thought. It has became a stitch in your side that you must tend. It has taken control of you.

That's where I have been. That's why I have not blogged. That's why I have been in a spiritual lagoon. That's why my mind no longer seeks out a pen and paper to release thoughts piling up. It's because they are all gone. They left when my idol took over. And when that idol came in, my Lord got cast down to second.

...

We live and we learn . . . we learn. Well, we should learn. This time can be of profit if I learn from it and I am devoted to doing so. The idol is burned. The Asherim pole has been cut down and the altar is re-erected. Now comes the up-hill trek. Down-hill is easy but it is boring. Up-hill is where things get exciting.

This blog can be an idol, too.

No worries there, I don't have enough devotion to make it so. :)

We humans are good at making idols, and they can come in many forms. Don't have to be images of wood or stone. All of us have to pull them down from time to time. Don't be discouraged, God is gracious to forgive, so thankful for that in my own life. Be thankful that He let you see this. Hard lessons are the ones remembered the best.
Have a great day
