Really?

An hour or so ago I went to the fairgrounds because they are supposed to be having a "liquidation" sale.  Basically it is a big junk sale.  I was thinking it would be nice to get a cheap stereo for a VW, and I knew they would have stereos.

I walked in the building and they lady sitting at the desk inside told me it is $7 to walk around and shop.  What?  Yeah, you have to pay in order to see the prices or merchandise but they refund it if you spend $100 or more on electronics or $50+ on anything else.  I told her, "no, thank you," and walked my little self on out of the junk store.

Really?  I have to give you money to purchase something.  You guys lost my business because you were trying to rip me off.  Congratulations.

Strange days.

Driven Part 1

I wrote this down while killing time at school today.  I had considered keeping it to myself for a while until the thought is more developed but instead, I am sharing it now.

What is a man's drive?  What leads us to do what we do?  There are seven billion people on Earth doing seven billion different things.  There are seven billion minds moving around doing what seems appropriate to them a the time.  We all are driven to live life in whatever way we do.  What is our drive and what determines that drive?
What drives one person to give their life to helping the poor and another to taking a life for the profit of something such as a car?  Why does one person start a major corporation and another live on the streets?  What makes one man give his life to God and another to kill Christians?
Is there a common drive for every person or are people's reasons as diverse as their characters?  Are we all created with some imprinted purpose that cannot be deviated from?  Or can we deny our callings?
What is my drive?  Maybe if I could understand what drives me, I could begin understanding what drives others and if there is a common denominator.

What drives you?  Think about it . . . hard.  Give an honest and thoughtful answer, not necessarily the first thing that comes to your head.

Yosemite Climbing - Photo Gallery - Pictures, More From National Geographic Magazine

I love climbing, free climbing, but heights really get me still. Maybe that's why it is fun.

Fired

Sometimes funny things happen and you learn useful (however unpleasant) aspects about people without being hurt by it.

I got a part-time job at the local airport working on aircraft.  A guy I know got me an interview and I spoke with the owner about my schedule and his plan in employing me.  Everything seemed to work out and I was employed as a part-time mechanic's help.  The only times I would be able to help would be on vacation days from school during the week.  I go to school 7:00 to 4:00, five days a week.  The shop closes its doors at 4:30 and doesn't work on weekends, so this was understood from the beginning.

I showed up today because school was canceled due to the weather.  The mechanic said I wasn't on the time clock so we went to the office to get me back on.  It was then that we were both informed that the owner decided I wasn't going to work out.  Hmm.  Nice to know.  Neither the mechanic or I knew this.  So I was fired before I worked a single day for this company and I didn't even know.  This is a valuable thing to know about the company without being injured by it.  Lesson learned.

I Don't Know

It is true, I really don't know.  I don't know how old the Earth is.  I don't know why "bad things happen to good people."  I don't know how there can be no beginning of God and no end.  I don't know how I can exist for Eternity.  I don't know how to prove to you that God exists (although I may have already mentioned that.)  I don't know why the History Channel says that Israel was a nation of hired guns.

I don't have a problem saying, "I don't know."  At one point in time, I would have had an issue with such a statement, but not more.  When I say, "I don't know," it drives me to find the answer.  Not know the answer to a question and admitting it is not an easy way out, it is the truth.  Learning those three words came with experience, making mistakes and claiming things I can't back up.

I think more Christians need to learn that phrase.  I have spoken to many people who had a different view that I do on spiritual subjects and they made ridiculous arguments that seemed to come from thin air.  It seemed as though they were defending an opinion that they were not sure why they believed it themselves.  Now, I have done this in the past and may do it again but I will try not to.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 reads, "He has made everything appropriate in its time.  He has also set eternity in their heart, yet so that man will not find out the work which God has done from the beginning even to the end."

You catch that?  We will not understand all that God does.  So why do some claim they do?  I also wrote a while back about not trying to over-understand God.  You can read it in Digging Deeper.

I read a Q&A session with an atheist about what he believes about and sees in Christians.  One thing he said that I have to agree with is that Christians are horrible about backing up what they believe.  He did use a few extreme examples, but much of what he said appeared to be sound.  He also said that we are unable to admit that we DON'T KNOW EVERYTHING.  That's sad, because truth be told, we don't know everything.

Consider what you say.  Are you certain of your answer?  Are you using valid information or are you making stuff up?  Don't be afraid of saying, "I don't know."  Then once you say that phrase, try your hardest to not have to say it again for that same question.  Find the answer.

There is no replacement for faith.  I have found that some things have spiritual/supernatural answers that no one will believe.  At that point, the only way to believe is faith.  Nothing can replace the faith that we were told to hold on to.

Let's Play a Game!

I start the sentence, you finish it however seems fit for you.

"Cold weather is..."

Example: "Cold weather is an excuse for drinking obnoxious amounts of coffee."

Your turn!

Wild rag!  It is chilly.
